32 Teams in 32 Days — Day 15: Team Paterson
We’re profiling 32 teams — one per day — as we get ready for the start of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season at the Masters.
Day 15: Team Paterson
Lineup: Ross Paterson (skip), Kyle Waddell (third), Duncan Menzies (second), Craig Waddell (lead)
Hometown: Glasgow, Scotland
Paterson took the reins at skip in 2018 and captured his first career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title during his first season at the helm. Team Paterson faced then-defending champions Team Mouat in the Boost National men’s final in Conception Bay South, N.L. — the first-ever all-Scottish final in series history. Paterson scored the winning point in the extra end to edge Mouat 4-3 for the championship.
Paterson also skipped his squad to a bronze medal at the 2019 European Curling Championships. He previously played for skip Tom Brewster and represented Scotland at the 2016 world championship.
Kyle Waddell previously played with Kyle Smith and represented Great Britain at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. His younger brother Craig joined Team Paterson this season after lead Michael Goodfellow stepped back from competitive curling. Craig Waddell served as the team’s alternate in the past at the 2019 European Curling Championships and filled in at second for Menzies during the 2020 Meridian Canadian Open.
