Team Bio
Yannick Schwaller skipped Switzerland to three consecutive world junior curling championships from 2014 to 2016. He threw third stones while calling the game in 2014 and 2015. Schwaller went 6-3 through round-robin play in 2014 and edged Italy 4-3 in a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs. The miracle run continued with wins over Canada and Norway to reach the final against Scotland, skipped by Kyle Smith, where Schwaller held on 6-5 to capture the gold medal.
Romano Meier was the alternate on the 2014 gold-winning squad and moved up to fourth stones the following season. Schwaller came close to retaining the world junior title in 2015 but fell 6-3 to Canada’s Braden Calvert in the gold-medal match to settle for silver.
Schwaller, now throwing fourth and skipping, and Meier (at third) returned to the world juniors in 2016 and reached the Page playoffs but just missed the podium losing 8-4 to Canada’s Matt Dunstone in the bronze-medal game.
Marcel Käufeler joined Team Schwaller in 2016 with Michael Brunner coming on board a year later. Team Schwaller won its first World Curling Tour title at the StuSells Oakville Tankard in September 2018.
