30 teams in 30 days — Day 5: Team Fleury

We’re profiling 30 teams — one per day — leading up to the start of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season at the Masters.

Day 5: Team Fleury

Lineup: Tracy Fleury (skip), Selena Njegovan (third), Liz Fyfe (second), Kristin MacCuish (lead)

Home club: East St. Paul Curling Club; East St. Paul, Man.

Team Fleury are the defending Masters women’s champions. Fleury, who is from Sudbury, Ont., captured her first Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling women’s title at the 2019 Masters in North Bay, not too far from her hometown. Team Fleury lost just once during the week in pool play to Team Yoshimura but took the rematch in the championship game 7-5 with their skip shooting 91 per cent.

It was the second major for Njegovan, Fyfe and MacCuish, who also captured the 2016 BOOST National in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., with skip Kerri Einarson. They also claimed Tour Challenge Tier 2 women’s titles in 2015 and 2017.

Two-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Chelsea Carey filled in for Fleury during the Canadian women’s curling championship in February. Carey skipped the Wild Card One squad to a 6-6 round-robin record and finished tied for sixth place in the championship pool.

With Fleury back in action, the team reached the semifinals of the Humpty’s Champions Cup in April.

The Masters kicks off the 2021-22 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season and runs Oct. 19-24 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario. Tickets are now available, CLICK HERE to purchase yours today.
