Homan defeats Jones for second straight victory in Co-op Canadian Open

CAMROSE, Alta. — Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan improved to a 2-1 record in the Co-op Canadian Open and is now one more victory away from advancing to the playoffs.

Homan defeated Winnipeg’s Team Jennifer Jones 6-3 Thursday morning in a B-semifinals match from the triple knockout preliminary stage.

Teams must win three games before they lose three in order to qualify for the quarterfinals.

With the loss, Jones dropped into the C-side and must win out to avoid elimination.

Elsewhere, Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes (2-1) won 7-2 over Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni (1-2); Winnipeg’s Team Abby Ackland earned a 10-5 decision against Switzerland’s Team Michèle Jäggi (1-2); and South Korea’s Team Eun-Ji Gim (2-1) was victorious 10-8 versus Team Tabitha Peterson (1-2) from the United States.

The Co-op Canadian Open continues with Draw 10 at 2 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. local time with broadcast coverage on Sportsnet and streaming online at Sportsnet NOW (Canada) or Yare (international).

NOTES: The Co-op Canadian Open is the fourth event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season with 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world at Encana Arena. … Triple knockout action runs through to Saturday morning. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday afternoon followed by the semifinals in the evening. Both finals are set for Sunday.
