Grandy fends off Strouse in wild win at KIOTI National

PICTOU COUNTY, N.S. — Clancy Grandy and her Vancouver-based team grabbed their first win in the KIOTI National with a wild 8-7 decision over Team Delaney Strouse of the United States during Draw 7 Wednesday.

Team Grandy drew to an even 1-1 record at the midway mark of pool play while Strouse dropped to 0-2.

Grandy got out to an early 4-0 lead by scoring a deuce in the first and stealing two in the second. Strouse came back with a three-ender in the third and the two teams traded pairs of points in the fourth and fifth ends as Grandy led 6-5.

A steal of one for Strouse in the sixth made it 6-all and the teams exchanged single points in the seventh and eighth ends to force the extra where Grandy made a short raise tap for the winning point.

Elsewhere in Draw 7, South Korea’s Team Eun-Ji Gim took two in the eighth end to win 6-5 over Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni.

Gim has kept the momentum running after claiming gold this past weekend in the Pan Continental Championships on the opposite coast in Kelowna, B.C., and now holds a 2-0 record in the Grand Slam of Curling tournament at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

Winnipeg’s Team Jennifer Jones also climbed to a 2-0 record with a 6-3 victory over Team Satsuki Fujisawa from Japan.

Both Tirinzoni and Fujisawa are now level with 1-1 records.

Italy’s Team Stefania Constantini improved to a 1-1 record with a 6-2 victory over Team Tabitha Peterson of the United States. Peterson fell to a 0-2 record.
