32 teams in 32 days — Day 7: Team Tirinzoni

We’re profiling 32 teams — one per day — as we get ready for the start of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season at the Masters.

Day 7: Team Tirinzoni

Lineup: Silvana Tirinzoni (skip, third stones), Alina Pätz (vice skip, fourth stones), Esther Neuenschwander (second), Melanie Barbezat (lead)

Home club: CC Aarau; Aarau, Switzerland

Tirinzoni is the two-time reigning world champion capturing her first gold medal in 2019 and her second this past May in the Calgary bubble. The Swiss squad finished with an overall 14-1 record including a 4-2 victory over RCF’s Team Kovaleva in the final. Team Tirinzoni also finished runners-up to Team Homan in the Humpty’s Champions Cup during their stay in Calgary.

Pätz and Barbezat are both former skips who joined forces with Tirinzoni and Neuenschwander in 2018. On top of winning the world championship in their first season together, Team Tirinzoni reached three Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling women’s finals and claimed the 2019 Humpty’s Champions Cup. Pätz also won the world championship in 2012 as the alternate to Mirjam Ott and skipped her own team to gold in 2015.

The Masters kicks off the 2021-22 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season and runs Oct. 19-24 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario. Tickets are now available, CLICK HERE to purchase yours today.
