Team McCarville returning for 2018-19 season
Some teams are expected to shake things up following the end of the Olympic quadrennial, but Team McCarville isn’t one of them.
McCarville’s Thunder Bay, Ont., crew announced on social media Thursday they’ll be back for the 2018-19 season.
Skip Krista McCarville returned to competitive curling in 2015 following a brief hiatus and had quite the comeback season with third Kendra Lilly, second Ashley Sippala and lead Sarah Potts. McCarville captured four World Curling Tour titles and the Northern Ontario Scotties championship.
Although it was McCarville’s fifth trip to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts — having won Ontario four times previously — it was her first since Northern Ontario was granted its own entry. They earned the silver medal at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts falling in the final to Alberta’s Team Chelsea Carey.
McCarville successfully defended the Northern Ontario title in 2017 and finished fourth at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The team competed in the 2017 Roar of the Rings Canadian Olympic curling trials, claiming a spot through the pre-trials, and just missed the playoffs tied in fourth place with a 4-4 record.
Tracy Fleury’s team from Sudbury, Ont., defeated Team McCarville in the Northern Ontario Scotties final last month.
