Field finalized for WFG Masters in Saskatoon

The world’s best are ready to run back to Saskatoon for the WFG Masters, Dec. 12-17, at Merlis Belsher Place.

The third Grand Slam of Curling event of the 2023-24 season features 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the globe. Teams were invited based on the WCF’s world team rankings.

Joël Retornaz, whose team is ranked No. 1 in the men’s division, returns as the defending champion. Retornaz has been on a roll this fall winning both the HearingLife Tour Challenge and KIOTI National and now aims for a third consecutive Grand Slam of Curling men’s title.

Other past men’s champions of the WFG Masters eyeing another title include Matt Dunstone, Brad Gushue, Kevin Koe, Niklas Edin, Bruce Mouat and Mike McEwen.

Silvana Tirinzoni’s squad leads the way in the women’s division as the top-ranked team. Tirinzoni was victorious when Merlis Belsher Place previously hosted a Grand Slam of Curling event capturing the Champions Cup in April 2019.

Kerri Einarson, whose club is ranked No. 4 in the world, looks to defend the WFG Masters women’s title. Rachel Homan, who lost to Einarson during last year’s final in Oakville, Ont., is aiming for a record-extending fourth WFG Masters women’s title.

Both divisions will be split into four pools of four with teams crossing over to play four games against teams in an opposing pool. Pool A teams play Pool D teams, Pool B teams play Pool C teams, and vice versa. The top eight teams overall will advance to the playoffs.
