Einarson beats Carey in extra end to reach WFG Masters semifinals

OAKVILLE, Ont. — Team Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., needed an extra end to solve Winnipeg’s Team Chelsea Carey 5-4 and advance to the WFG Masters semifinals Saturday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.

Einarson, who climbed to a 5-0 record in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling major tournament, will now take on Team Tabitha Peterson after the American squad took two points in the eighth end to edge Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes 6-5.

The other women’s semifinal matchup will see Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan face Team Eun-Ji Gim of South Korea.

Homan, who also now holds a 5-0 mark, halted Sweden’s Team Anna Hasselborg 5-2 and Gim eliminated Winnipeg’s Team Jennifer Jones 9-6 during the quarterfinals to advance.

Calgary’s Team Brendan Bottcher will meet Team Joël Retornaz from Italy and Scotland’s Team Bruce Mouat go up against Norway’s Team Magnus Ramsfjell in the men’s semifinals.

Watch the men’s and women’s semifinals at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet,  Sportsnet NOW (Canada) and Yare (international).

Both finals are set for Sunday.
