Zacharias stepping back from Team Jones for next season

Mackenzie Zacharias, who throws second stones and handles vice skip duties for Team Jones, will be stepping back from competitive curling next season.

The Winnipeg/Altona, Man. club announced Sunday that Zacharias made the decision to “focus on her career and other passions in her life at this time.”

“Mackenzie has played an integral role in our team’s accomplishments this season as we achieved many goals,” the team said in a statement. “Whether it’s within the world of curling or beyond, we know she has a very bright future ahead.”

Zacharias will finish out the season with Team Jones at the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 11-16, in Toronto followed by the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup, May 2-7, in Regina.

The 23-year-old Zacharias previously skipped the squad capturing Canadian junior and world junior championships in 2020. She made her Scotties Tournament of Hearts debut in 2021 as the team competed as Wild Card 2 and returned the following year representing Manitoba.

Six-time Scotties champion Jennifer Jones joined forces with the team this season. They were victorious in Manitoba provincial playdowns once more and earned silver medals at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
