Team Carruthers will be looking to do well at the Princess Auto Elite 10 in Winnipeg as it not only features their title sponsor but it’s also taking place in their hometown.

“It couldn’t be better,” lead Colin Hodgson said. “Manitoba and especially Winnipeg is such an amazing curling community. To have a Manitoba company sponsor an event in their own backyard, they’re going to put on a great show. They’ve been talking about this for this whole last year and doing some planning with our team about how to make this event unique and exciting for fans and to bring people to the arena who don’t necessarily normally come to a Grand Slam event.

“They’re trying to get more of a marriage between the community and the elite curling level. It’s really great to work with a sponsor who cares so much about promoting the sport and about helping out local teams and their local community.”

Team Carruthers has had success in their home province this season winning the Canad Inns Men’s Classic in Portage la Prairie in October. They are currently representing Manitoba at the Tim Hortons Brier in Regina after claiming their second Viterra Championship within four seasons.

With third Braeden Moskowy leaving the team, Jeff Stoughton will fill in during the Princess Auto Elite 10.

Carruthers is a two-time Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title winner. He captured his first in the series while playing with Stoughton at the 2013 National and earned his first as a skip with his current squad at the inaugural Humpty’s Champions Cup in 2016. The final against Team Epping required not one but two extra ends with Carruthers unintentionally blanking the first OT before delivering the clutch draw to win in the second.

Team Carruthers finished runner-up to Team Gushue in the 2016 Elite 10 falling in a draw-to-the-button shootout. Carruthers lost to eventual champions Team Morris in last year’s semifinals.

The Princess Auto Elite 10 runs March 15-18 at Winnipeg’s St. James Civic Centre.
