The reigning Brier and world champions returned to the national tournament this season in the Team Canada auto-berth spot.

Team Gushue opened the season capturing back-to-back Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling titles at the Tour Challenge Tier 1 and Masters. Gushue went undefeated at both events posting perfect 7-0 records.

The Tour Challenge victory earned them an invitation to the season-ending Humpty’s Champions Cup, which is the only trophy in the series the team has yet to hold.

Gushue has earned nine Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling championships including the 2016 Elite 10 in Victoria. The final against Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers came down to a draw-to-the-button shootout and Gushue grabbed a piece of the button to secure the title.

Three of Team Gushue’s championships in the series came during the 2015-16 season when they also clinched the Bonus Cup finishing first overall in the men’s division.

Nichols actually has 10 titles to his name in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling having won an additional championship at the 2013 National during his stint playing front-end for Jeff Stoughton.

Gushue and Nichols captured gold for Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

The 2018 Princess Auto Elite 10 runs March 15-18 at Winnipeg’s St. James Civic Centre.
