Match schedule set for Co-op Canadian Open in Red Deer
Games set: The match schedule has been released for the Co-op Canadian Open taking place Jan. 16-21, 2024, at Servus Arena in Red Deer, Alberta.
The fourth Grand Slam of Curling event of the season features 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. Teams play four round-robin games with the top eight advancing to the quarterfinals. If necessary, a tiebreaker draw will be played to determine the final playoff spots.
Teams were invited based on the WCF’s world team rankings with one spot in each division reserved for this season’s HearingLife Tour Challenge Tier 2 winners. Team Casper from the United States (men’s division) and South Korea’s Team Kim (women’s division) captured the titles in October in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Team Bottcher and Team Fujisawa return as the defending Co-op Canadian Open champions. Bottcher defeated Team Edin 5-3 with family and friends on hand while Fujisawa beat Team Einarson 5-3 as well to become the first club from Japan to capture a title in the series during last year’s event in Camrose, Alberta.
Team Retornaz, winners of three straight Grand Slam men’s championships to start this season, now aim for the record books as the club from Italy could become the first to win four consecutive titles in the series during a single season.
Full-event and weekend passes plus single draw tickets are now available. Purchase your tickets online at reddeergsoc.goigniter.com.
Broadcast coverage begins Jan. 18 on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ (Canada) or gsoclive.com (international).
