Kevin Martin defeats Randy Ferbey to win Canadian Open title
WINNIPEG — Kevin Martin defeated Randy Ferbey 7-4 in an all-Edmonton rink final to capture the Canadian Open title.
It’s Martin’s first Grand Slam of Curling title with his new team featuring third John Morris, second Marc Kennedy and lead Ben Hebert.
Ferbey led 2-1 after five ends but the tide shifted to Martin’s side. David Nedohin, who throws fourth stones for Ferbey, flashed on his last rock in the sixth end, allowing Martin to capitalize with an open hit for three to pull ahead 4-2.
Nedohin redeemed himself with a deuce in the seventh to tie it 4-4 but Martin held the hammer coming home and scored another three count to ice the game.
