Yorkton has hosted the Canadian Open the past two seasons with Toronto’s Team Epping and Ottawa’s Team Homan entering North Battleford as the defending champions. Last season’s event saw Epping throw a perfect game in the men’s final to defeat Team Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., while Homan made history becoming the first women’s rink to win three consecutive Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling majors after scoring the win over Winnipeg’s Team Jones.

The Canadian Open is the third of four majors on circuit as one of the original Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events alongside the Masters, National, and Players’ Championship.

Teams also compete for bonus points in the chase for the Rogers Grand Slam Cup, awarded to the overall season champions.

Canadian Open winners are guaranteed berths to the Humpty’s Champions Cup, the season-ending Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event featuring all of the top champions of the year in one final showdown.
