Canadian Open coming back to North Battleford

The Meridian Canadian Open returns to North Battleford, Sask., for the 2018-19 season.

The fifth event and third major of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling campaign will be held at Civic Centre Jan. 8-13. Ticket information will be announced at a future date, keep it here for the latest.

Sixteen of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams compete in the triple knockout format where teams must win three games before they lose three in order to advance to the playoffs.

A capacity crowd was on hand at the Civic Centre for the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open. Brad Gushue threw a perfect 100 percent in the men’s final for his crew to defeat Niklas Edin’s club. Team Scheidegger stole in the eighth to edge Team Tirinzoni for the women’s title in skip Casey Scheidegger’s top-tier Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling debut.

Team de Cruz (men’s) and Team Carey (women’s) captured the Meridian Canadian Open titles this past season in Camrose, Alta.

Winners of the Meridian Canadian Open will qualify for the season finale Humpty’s Champions Cup taking place April 23-28, 2019, at Saskatoon’s Merlis Belsher Place.
