Tardi, Njegovan to sub on Team Jacobs for AMJ Players’ Championship

TORONTO — Brad Jacobs has called upon a pair of super spares for the AMJ Players’ Championship.

Tyler Tardi and Connor Njegovan have joined Team Jacobs to play in the fifth and final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season, beginning Tuesday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Tardi and Njegovan will fill in for second Brett Gallant and lead Ben Hebert, respectively.

Gallant is resting and recovering to prepare for the upcoming world mixed doubles curling championship, where he will represent Canada alongside Jocelyn Peterman. Hebert is out due to injury.

Team Jacobs was granted an exemption by the Grand Slam of Curling’s competition committee to play with two spares. Teams are typically allowed only one substitution for events.

Team Jacobs, which also includes third Marc Kennedy, represented Canada at the World Men’s Curling Championship in Moose Jaw, Sask., and captured the bronze medal Sunday with an 11-2 win over China.

The Calgary-based club is ranked No. 3 in the world and finished runner-up in the past two Grand Slam events.

Tardi served as Jacobs’s alternate during the World Men’s Curling Championship. He plays second for skip Kevin Koe and won the Players’ Championship in 2023.

Njegovan, lead for skip Reid Carruthers, is no stranger to Jacobs. The two played together on Team Carruthers last season before Jacobs joined Kennedy, Gallant and Hebert.

Jacobs begins play in the AMJ Players’ Championship during the opening draw against John Epping’s team.
