Scottish champion Whyte continues to climb world rankings
Team Ross Whyte gained another spot in the world team rankings after successfully defending the Scottish curling men’s championship.
Team Whyte topped Team Bruce Mouat 8-3 in Saturday’s final and slid into No. 4 on the charts.
Whyte was ranked eighth when the calendar flipped to 2025 and ascended three places last month after capturing his first Grand Slam of Curling title at the WFG Masters.
Mouat, who won the first three Grand Slam men’s titles this season, remains in the top spot.
Team Yannick Schwaller also moved up one spot to reclaim second place by winning the Swiss curling championship.
Schwaller defeated Team Marco Hösli 10-5 Friday and 5-2 Saturday in the best-of-three final.
With the qualification cutoff for the AMJ Players’ Championship exactly one month away, teams on the bubble will keep a close eye on the rankings as only the top 12 teams receive invitations to the final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season.
Team Korey Dropkin surged into 12th after winning the USA Curling national championships earlier this month. That bumped Team Niklas Edin to 13th and on the outside looking in.
In the women’s division, Team Sayaka Yoshimura returned to the top 10 after winning the Japan curling championship.
Yoshimura defeated Team Momoha Tabata 8-7 in an extra end during Sunday’s final.
Tabata moved up two places and is now No. 7.
