Randy Ferbey wins Masters to earn first career Grand Slam title
ST. JOHN’S — Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey has captured his first career Grand Slam title winning the Masters with a 6-3 win over crosstown rival Kevin Martin during Sunday’s final.
The reigning world champions Ferbey, fourth David Nedohin, second Scott Pfeifer and lead Marcel Rocque earned $30,000.
“We were playing really well against Martin,” Nedohin said in a World Curling Tour (WCT) release. “When you play against [Team Martin] you’d better bring your A game or you could wind up in a hole really quickly.”
“This was a big one for us,” he added. “Not only were we able to capture our first Grand Slam title, but we really wanted to grab that top rank [on the WCT] back from Martin.”
Martin and his crew of third Don Walchuk, second Carter Rycroft and lead Don Bartlett collected $18,000.
NOTES: Winnipeg skip Mike McEwen made his Grand Slam of Curling series debut filling in at third on Ryan Fry’s team.
