Ramsfjell tops Dunstone to win GSOC debut at WFG Masters
OAKVILLE, Ont. — Norway’s Team Magnus Ramsfjell picked up the win in their Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling debut at the WFG Masters.
Ramsfjell scored a 5-4 victory over Winnipeg’s Team Matt Dunstone during Draw 2 action Tuesday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
After giving up a steal in the opening end, Ramsfjell counted three in the third to pull ahead.
Dunstone settled for a single in the fourth and stole one in the fifth to tie it up 3-3. The teams traded singles in the sixth and seventh to keep it all square.
Ramsfjell held the hammer in the final frame and drew into the pocket for the winning point.
Elsewhere in Draw 2, Toronto’s Team John Epping stole one in the third and three in the fourth during a 7-3 victory versus Winnipeg’s Team Reid Carruthers.
Defending champions Team Bruce Mouat of Scotland scored four in the seventh end to close out an 8-2 win over Team Korey Dropkin from the United States and Switzerland’s Team Yannick Schwaller defeated Team Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., 5-3.

The WFG Masters is the third event of the 2022-23 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season featuring 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. … Round-robin play runs through to Friday as teams play four games against opponents outside of their pools. … The top eight teams overall advance to Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Saturday evening with both finals on tap for Sunday.
