Players’ Championship returning to Toronto
The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling will be running through the 6 once again.
The series returns to Toronto for the Players’ Championship, the crown jewel of the Pinty’s GSOC series, running April 12-17 at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Formerly known as Maple Leaf Gardens, the arena played host to the Players’ Championship this past season and saw Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., win his first career Grand Slam title in the men’s final. Scotland’s Eve Muirhead, who also won the Players’ title when the MAC hosted the tournament in 2013, came out on top in the women’s final once again.
The Players’ Championship features 12 of the top men’s teams and 12 of the top women’s teams on the World Curling Tour. Teams are invited based on the WCT’s year-to-date order of merit rankings.
An extra incentive for this year is the winners of the Players’ Championship receive berths to the new Champions Cup, the season-ending event on the 2015-16 Pinty’s GSOC season in Sherwood Park, Alta.
