Masters making its way to Lloydminster for 2017-18 season

The Masters is coming to Lloydminster, Sask., taking place Oct. 24-29 at the Centennial Civic Centre.

The second event and first major of the 2017-18 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season features 15 of the top men’s teams and 15 of the top women’s teams from around the world.

Sweden’s Niklas Edin stole the extra end to edge Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., during last year’s men’s final. Not only was it Edin’s first career Grand Slam title it was also the first for a non-Canadian men’s team.

Allison Flaxey of Caledon, Ont., also captured her first title in the series taking the Masters women’s championship. Flaxey stole her way to victory in the tiebreaker, quarterfinals and semifinals before defeating Ottawa’s Rachel Homan in the final.

The Masters is one of the original four events in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling dating back to the inaugural 2001-02 season.
