Jones downs Paetz to climb to 2-0 at Masters
LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. — Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones jumped to a 2-0 record at the Masters with an 8-2 victory over Alina Paetz of Switzerland during Draw 3 Wednesday morning.
The 2014 Olympic gold medallist Jones took two points to start and never looked back. The teams exchanged singles in two and three and Jones extended her lead with a steal of two in the fourth to pull away 5-1.
Paetz (1-1) was forced to just another single in five and shook hands when Jones tacked on a three-ender in the sixth.

Elsewhere, Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg held off American Jamie Sinclair 5-4.
After the teams alternated singles to start in two and three, Hasselborg broke the game wide open with a score of four in the fifth. Sinclair came right back with a deuce in the sixth, but Hasselborg maintained control blanking the seventh and conceding one in the eighth to secure the win. Hasselborg opens with a 1-0 record while Sinclair dropped to 0-2.

Scotland’s Eve Muirhead connected with the open hit in the extra end to top Russia’s Anna Sidorova 6-5. Muirhead is at 1-0 while Sidorova’s record is level at 1-1 with a win over Sinclair in Tuesday’s opening draw.

In men’s play, Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers (1-0) scored two in the sixth and stole one in the seventh to defeat Peter de Cruz (0-1) of Switzerland 6-3.
Sweden’s Niklas Edin picked a 5-3 victory over John Morris’ team from Vernon, B.C. Edin hit off his own to take out Morris’ counter and score two in the seventh. The reigning Masters champion Edin (1-0) made a runback double takeout on his last in the eighth to run Morris (0-1) out of rocks.
