Jeff Stoughton defeats John Morris to win 2003 Players’ Championship
LEDUC, Alta. — Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton captured his first career Grand Slam of Curling title after defeating John Morris of Stayner, Ont., 8-3 Sunday to capture the Players’ Championship.
Stoughton earned $50,000 while Morris collected $25,000.
Stoughton grabbed the lead for good with a deuce in the fourth end and added a single steal in the fifth to hold a 4-2 advantage. The 2002 Brier silver medallist Morris blanked six but was limited to just a single in seven and Stoughton closed out the match early with a four-ender in eight.
