Homan, Jones advance to GSOC Masters semifinals
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Rachel Homan’s title defence at the Masters continues after her Ottawa team moved onto the semifinals Saturday.
Homan, who won her first Grand Slam of Curling title at the event a year ago, scored a deuce in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to double up on Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Nedohin had got the better of Homan earlier in the week during round-robin play winning 8-2 in only five ends.
The reigning Canadian champion Homan now faces Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott, who grabbed a single in the fifth and stole one in the sixth in a 3-2 win over Ji-Sun Kim of South Korea to advance.
Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones takes on Eve Muirhead of Scotland on the other side of the bracket. Jones reached the semifinals with a 6-5 extra-end victory over Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton and Muirhead held on for a 5-4 victory in an extra end over Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson in a repeat of the world championship and Players’ Championship finals.
