Sloan, Muirhead set sights on Players’ Championship
YORKTON, Sask. — Scotland’s Eve Muirhead just captured the Canadian Open championship Sunday and already her team is setting their sights on winning the next Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling women’s event.
The Players’ Championship, running April 7-12 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, is the third and final stop for the women’s division on the Grand Slam series.
Toronto is a special place for Team Muirhead as it was there at the Players’ Championship in 2013 where her team won its first career Grand Slam title and third Anna Sloan loves having the chance to return.
“It’s great, we’ll be there and we’ll be fighting,” Sloan said. “It was just a great competition the last time around that we’re hoping to do the same next time.”
Muirhead added the team is aiming high following their Grand Slam victory in Yorkton.
“We had such a great Slam here and it gives us a lot of momentum going into that,” Muirhead said. “For us, the Players’ Championship is a massive event and winning it once before we’re definitely going in looking to do well again.”
