Epping to open Players’ Championship vs. Laycock
Toronto’s John Epping will kick off his hometown Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event when he plays Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock in the opening draw of the Players’ Championship.
The draw schedule was released Wednesday for the Players’ Championship running April 12-17 at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Five-time Players’ Championship winner Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg will also be in action on opening night and goes up against Edmonton’s Kelsey Rocque, who recently claimed her second consecutive CIS university title.
Meanwhile, Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Chelsea Carey of Calgary, fresh off of representing Canada at the world women’s curling championship, meets Tour Challenge Tier 2 champ Kerri Einarson of Winnipeg.
Reigning National and Elite 10 men’s champion Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., begins his quest to complete a career Grand Slam versus American John Shuster.
The Players’ Championship is the fourth major and sixth event of the 2015-16 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season. The tournament will also crown the Rogers Grand Slam Cup winners, awarded to the overall season champions in the men’s and women’s divisions following the conclusion of the Players’ Championship.
