Einarson, Muirhead on the rise at Players’ Championship
TORONTO — Winnipeg’s Kerri Einarson improved to a 2-1 record at the Players’ Championship with a 6-4 victory over Tracy Fleury of Sudbury, Ont., during Draw 6 action Thursday morning.
The Tour Challenge Tier 2 winner Einarson held the hammer coming home tied and tacked two points on the board in the final frame.
Fleury fell to a 1-2 record in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling major tournament.
Defending champion Eve Muirhead of Scotland also climbed to 2-1 edging Edmonton’s Val Sweeting 4-3 with an open hit and stick for one in the final end. Sweeting fell to 0-2.
Ottawa’s Rachel Homan (3-0) continues to cruise with a 7-3 victory over American Erika Brown (0-2).
In men’s division action, American John Shuster (1-2) got into the win column defeating Toronto’s own John Epping 6-4. Epping dropped to a 0-3 record.
Scotland’s David Murdoch topped Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock 8-6. Both teams have 2-1 records.
