Tour Update: Kim, Epping win Stu Sells Toronto Tankard

South Korea’s Team Eun-jung Kim and Canada’s Team John Epping came out on top at the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard at High Park Club.

Team Kim claimed the women’s title Monday with a 7-3 win over Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni while Epping defeated South Korea’s Team Byeong-jin Jeong 8-4 in the men’s final.

Kim, who won the event last year when it was held in Barrie, posted a perfect 6-0 record through the event.

Team Epping finished with an unblemished 7-0 record through the men’s field. It’s the second consecutive title on tour for Epping and his new crew featuring third Jacob Horgan, second Tanner Horgan and lead Ian McMillan. Team Epping also went undefeated through the KW Fall Classic last month.

Epping soared 10 spots into No. 23 in the world rankings.

Italy’s Team Joël Retornaz bounced back from missing the playoffs at the HearingLife Tour Challenge to reaching the quarterfinals in Toronto and reclaiming No. 2 in the men’s division from Canada’s Team Brad Gushue. Norway’s Team Magnus Ramsfjell (No. 13) jumped seven spots after making the semis.

Kim climbed one spot to No. 5 on the women’s side while Sweden’s Team Isabella Wranå ascended three spots to No. 7 with a semifinal finish.

GIM WINS IN CALGARY

South Korea’s Team Eun-ji Gim captured the Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic title for the third consecutive season.

It’s the first time in the event’s 46-year history that a team has won the title three years in a row.

Team Gim, ranked No. 3 in the world, downed China’s Team Rui Wang 7-1 in only five ends during Monday’s final at the Calgary Curling Club.

Gim recovered from a 1-2 start in the tournament, dropping to the C Event of the triple knockout, and won six straight games with elimination on the line en route to the title.
