Tour Roundup: Homan, McEwen win PointsBet Invitational

Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan and Saskatoon’s Team Mike McEwen cashed in at the PointsBet Invitational.

Homan topped Calgary’s Team Kayla Skrlik and McEwen beat Team Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., by identical 8-3 scores during Sunday’s finals at Calgary’s WinSport Arena.

Both Team Homan and Team McEwen collected $50,000 from the prize purse after going 4-0 through the single-elimination tournament.

Homan stole back-to-back single points in the second and third ends plus three more in the seventh. Skrlik shook hands after adding a single in the eighth.

The reigning world champion Homan holds a 12-game winning streak to start the season. The team went undefeated through the Shorty Jenkins Classic two weeks ago in Cornwall, Ont.

Meanwhile, McEwen scored four off the bat in the first and added a three-ender in the sixth plus a steal of one in the seventh that put the game out of reach. Gushue, who was limited to a single in the second and a steal in the third, shook hands after adding another lone point in the eighth.

Team McEwen is also on a heater having won 13 straight games with title wins at the Saville Shootout in Edmonton and the ATB Okotoks Classic in Okotoks, Alta., earlier this month.
