Team Whyte rises three spots on world rankings list
Recently crowned WFG Masters men’s champion Ross Whyte and his Scottish squad have moved up three spots on the World Curling team rankings list.
Whyte, who was No. 8, rose to No. 5 after capturing his first career Grand Slam of Curling title on Sunday.
Team Whyte scored the winning point in the eighth end to defeat Canada’s Team Brad Jacobs 5-4 during the men’s final at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ont.
It was the second straight Grand Slam final for Jacobs, who also jumped three spots to No. 3 on the world rankings. Jacobs lost to world No. 1 Team Bruce Mouat of Scotland during last month’s KIOTI National men’s final.
Sweden’s Team Niklas Edin leapfrogged Switzerland’s Team Marco Hösli for No. 10. Edin reached the quarterfinals while Hösli missed the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Anna Hasselborg and her Swedish team climbed one spot to No. 3 on the women’s side.
Hasselborg earned her eighth Grand Slam title with a 7-5 win over world No. 1 Team Rachel Homan of Canada during Sunday’s women’s final at the WFG Masters.
Semifinalist Team Eun-jung Kim of South Korea (No. 4) and quarterfinalist Team Kerri Einarson of Canada (No. 5) each gained a spot as South Korea’s Team Eun-ji Gim, which went winless at 0-4, dropped to No. 6.
Japan’s Team Momoha Tabata qualified for the playoffs for the first time in a Grand Slam major tournament and cracked the top 10, moving up two spots to No. 9. Sweden’s Team Isabella Wranå ascended three spots to No. 11 after reaching the semifinals.
