Team Einarson, Team Homan cruise to Draw 6 victories at Boost National
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Team Kerri Einarson climbed to a 2-0 record during round-robin play in the Boost National.
Einarson, from Gimli, Man., cruised to a 10-4 victory over Winnipeg’s Team Jennifer Jones during Draw 6 action Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Gardens.
It was 5-1 for Einarson before her team even had their first crack at the hammer as they stole two points in the first and three in the second while holding Jones to a single in the third. The teams alternated pairs of points in four and five as Einarson reclaimed a four-point advantage fast.
Jones, who won the 2018 women’s world championship in this very same building, stole one in the sixth but it was game over after Einarson tacked three more on the board in the seventh.
Elsewhere in the draw, Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan also rolled out to a big win defeating Toronto’s Team Hollie Duncan 9-4 in six ends.
After deuces back and forth to start, Homan (1-1) stole away swiping four points in the third to make it 6-2. Duncan (0-2) was held to a single in the fourth and Homan counted three more points in the fifth. It was handshakes early after Duncan was limited to another lonely point in the sixth.
Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa moved up to 2-0 with a 6-5 decision over Sweden’s Team Isabella Wranå (1-1) and South Korea’s Team Eun-Jung Kim (1-1) stole one in the sixth and four in the seventh during a 7-4 win over Team Krista McCarville (0-2) from Thunder Bay, Ont.

Round-robin play runs through to Friday as teams play four games against teams outside of their pool. The top eight overall, regardless of pools, advance to Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Saturday evening and both finals are on tap for Sunday.

The Boost National is the first of six events on the 2022-23 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling calendar and features 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. … A combined $300,000 purse, split equally between the men’s and women’s divisions, is on the line. The winning teams receive $35,000 and invitations to the season-ending Kioti Tractor Champions Cup. … Points are also up for grabs in the race for the Pinty’s Cup, which is awarded to the 2022-23 season champions with a $75,000 bonus for the winning teams.
