Syncrude Elite 10 teams in 10 days: John Epping

We’re taking a look at the teams set to compete in the inaugural Syncrude Elite 10, the fourth stop on the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series, highlighting a different rink each day leading up to the event. Today’s profile: Team John Epping.

John Epping joined this trio to finish off last season at the Players’ Championship and after a successful run to the playoffs they decided to stick together.

They’ve continued to click capturing a World Curling Tour title this season winning the Gord Carroll Curling Classic in November. The rink also reached the semifinals at the Masters in November and finished runner-up at the Ontario Tankard in February.

Epping played with 1998 Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris in 2007 before joining former world champions Wayne Middaugh, Jon Mead and Scott Bailey for a few seasons, earning his first career Grand Slam title with the rink at the National in 2008.

Epping formed his own team in 2010 and shined in 2011-12 reaching the final of the World Cup of Curling (now known as the Masters) and claiming the Players’ Championship for his second Grand Slam title.

Travis Fanset, Patrick Janssen and Tim March competed at the National in Fort McMurray a year ago with Fanset at skip and Chad Allen joining the team at third.
