Sochi Olympics bronze medallist Niklas Edin has a new rink with him this season but they’re a trio of teammates Fort McMurray curling fans should be familiar with.
Oskar Eriksson, Kristian Lindström and Christoffer Sundgren turned heads at the National in Fort Mac a year ago with a 4-1 record in the round robin including a pair of 8-1 wins over Team Gushue and Team Jacobs. Along with Markus Eriksson, they also earned silver at the 2014 world championship and captured gold at the 2011 world juniors and 2013 Winter Universiade.
Edin has adjusted just fine with his new teammates and ran the table at the European Championship with a perfect 11-0 overall record to win the title. They’ve also qualified for the playoffs at four World Curling Tour events this season and made it to the tiebreakers at the Masters but fell to Team Stoughton.
Team Edin will touch down in Alberta early as they’ll compete in the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Prairie Showdown in Grande Prairie this weekend.

Edin has won at just about every level earning world, world junior and Universiade gold medals. He was a runner-up at the 2011 Players’ Championship, becoming the first non-Canadian male skip to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament. Eriksson is no stranger playing alongside Edin as he also served as the team’s alternate during the previous five seasons.
The Syncrude Elite 10 runs March 19-22 at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre in MacDonald Island Park. Click here for ticket information.
