Rachel Homan, Kevin Koe win Shorty Jenkins Classic
Rachel Homan and Kevin Koe kicked off their 2016-17 campaigns capturing the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic titles Sunday in Cornwall, Ont.
Homan, of Ottawa, won the women’s championship for the third time in her career with a 7-1 rout in just five ends over Allison Flaxey, of Caledon, Ont.
Team Homan finished the event with an undefeated 6-0 record.

Meanwhile, the reigning world champion Koe completed an 8-0 run through the Shorty Jenkins Classic upending Team Brad Gushue 9-3 in the men’s final.
Koe, of Calgary, slipped to No. 2 on the OOM last week with Team Gushue competing in the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard and qualifying for the playoffs.
The St. John’s team played its second straight event without skip Gushue, who is out indefinitely with a hip/groin issue. Third Mark Nichols skipped the team with Charley Thomas subbing in at third.
