No tick zone implemented for 2021 Humpty’s Champions Cup
The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling is giving the “no tick zone” a trial run during this week’s 2021 Humpty’s Champions Cup at Calgary’s WinSport Arena.
Under the new rule, rocks touching the centre line in the free-guard zone may not be moved by the opposing team until the sixth rock of the end.
The “no tick zone” has been tested at Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events in the past including the 2019 Humpty’s Champions Cup although that time it was the only applied to the eighth and extra ends. This rule is only for the Humpty’s Champions Cup and will not be in place during next week’s Princess Auto Players’ Championship.
The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling has experimented with new concepts in the past such as thinking time and the five-rock free guard zone.
The 2021 Humpty’s Champions Cup starts Thursday and features 12 of the top men’s teams and 12 of the top women’s teams from around the world.
