Mouat makes it into Humpty’s Champions Cup
Bruce Mouat is the latest to clinch a berth for the Humpty’s Champions Cup.
The Edinburgh, Scotland, team of Mouat, third Grant Hardie, second Bobby Lammie and lead Hammy McMillan Jr. captured the BOOST National title to secure a spot in the season-ending Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling tournament running April 24-29, 2018, at Calgary’s WinSport Arena.
Mouat defeated Chang-Min Kim of South Korea 9-4 in Sunday’s championship game in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
“It’s really exciting,” said the 23-year-old Mouat, who made history becoming the youngest men’s skip to win a Grand Slam title. “These events don’t come around all the time so we’re just so glad to kind of put our footprint on the Grand Slam series and hopefully perform well at the Champions Cup as well.”

The Humpty’s Champions Cup is the newest event in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling and features 15 men’s teams and 15 women’s teams. There’s just one catch to qualify for entry into the tournament: win to get in. Team must capture a high-profile championship over the course of the season to receive an invitation. From Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling champions, world champions, Olympic gold medallists and more, it’s a year-long quest for teams to punch their tickets to Calgary.
Mouat joins a growing field that also includes reigning Humpty’s Champions Cup winners Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and Ottawa’s Rachel Homan plus Tour Challenge Tier 1 champs Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., and Edmonton’s Val Sweeting.
If a team wins more than one of the events listed, the winner of the next ranked World Curling Tour event based on strength of field will receive an invitation. Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones locked down a place by winning the Masters last month and freed up a spot for another tour winner when her team claimed the BOOST National women’s title.
Jones edged Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge, Alta., 8-7 in Sunday’s final.
