February 20, 2025 – Curling’s titans are set to clash in an unforgettable matchup at the first-ever Rio Mare Battle of the Sexes presented by The Curling Group, as women’s world No. 1 Team Homan (Canada) takes on men’s world No. 1 Team Mouat (Scotland), 7 p.m. ET, on April 7 at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

The eight-end skins game will feature celebrity coaches, guest appearances, unique rule twists, and more. Ticket proceeds for the event will support Team Homan’s and Team Mouat’s charities of choice, with an additional $1000 per end going to each charity (see more info below). Fans can watch the game live on the Grand Slam of Curling website, App, and YouTube, featuring commentary by Olympic gold medallist Jennifer Jones and three-time world champion Brent Laing.

“We’re so excited to put on a great show for the fans while supporting a cause that means so much to the curling community,” said skip Rachel Homan. “Knowing that our funds from this event will go to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation makes it even more special. It’s going to be a fun and competitive event for the fans, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to give back,” said skip Bruce Mouat. “Supporting causes that matter is something we take seriously, and we’re proud that funds from this event will go toward Charlie Boy’s Cancer Fundraiser, a cause that’s incredibly close to us. We know Team Homan will bring their A-game, but we’re ready for a battle.”

The event comes at the heels of an extraordinary season for each competing team, which has seen Team Homan post a 52-4 record and Team Mouat with a 68-12 record.

Team Homan — Sandra Schmirler Foundation

Team Homan has chosen the Sandra Schmirler Foundation to help babies born too soon, too small, too sick, or too far. Since 2001, the Foundation has raised and given over $9 million to purchase life-saving equipment for Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in over 105 hospitals in every Canadian province and territory.

Team Mouat — Charlie Boy’s Cancer Fundraiser

Charlie is a close friend of Team Mouat’s who is currently battling with Stage 4 nodular malignant melanoma (a form of skin cancer). Team Mouat is joining Charlie’s fight to raise funds for research and development, leading to more trials and raising awareness of this rare disease.
