Lawton defeats Jones to advance at GSOC National
OSHAWA, Ont. — Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton eliminated reigning Olympic and Scotties champion Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg 6-5 in the women’s quarterfinals of the National Saturday afternoon.
Lawton now faces Ottawa’s Rachel Homan, who advanced with a 5-4 victory over Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton.
The other semifinal game is set with Tracy Fleury of Sudbury, Ont., going up against Edmonton’s Val Sweeting.
Fleury doubled up on Winnipeg’s Kristy McDonald to win 8-4 and Sweeting scored a single in the eighth end to edge Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., 5-4.
