Jennifer Jones to coach Rachel Homan’s team at Scotties Tournament of Hearts
One of the greatest curlers of all time will be on the bench with Rachel Homan’s team at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Homan announced Monday that Jennifer Jones will coach her team as the Ottawa-based club looks to defend the Canadian women’s curling championship.
“Jen’s leadership and experience are invaluable,” the team said in a social media post. “We’re lucky to have her on the bench with us.”
The event runs Feb 14-23 in Thunder Bay, Ont. Due to prior commitments, Jones will miss the start of the tournament, however, the team will have Rachelle Brown on the bench as an alternate.
Homan named Brendan Bottcher as coach at the start of the season. Bottcher stepped back from the role in October when he joined Brad Gushue’s men’s team to play second.
The team has had a few helping hands making guest appearances on the bench since then including Jones, Team Jacobs coach Paul Webster and Matt Hamilton of Team Shuster.
Jones won two world championships and six Scotties Tournament of Hearts titles and skipped Canada to gold at the 2014 Olympics. She retired from women’s curling last year.
The world No. 1 Homan holds a 45-4 record this season with five title wins including back-to-back Grand Slams at the Co-op Canadian Open and KIOTI National.
