Jacobs, Middaugh win Shorty Jenkins Classic
Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs successfully defended his Shorty Jenkins Classic title after defeating Charlottetown’s Adam Casey 7-1 in four ends during the men’s final Sunday in Brockville, Ont.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., rink of Jacobs, Ryan Fry, E.J. Harnden and Ryan Harnden started their season on a hot streak and finished the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record.
Jacobs led 2-1 after three ends and scored five points in the fourth and Casey shook hands to ice the game.
The Jacobs team earned 40 points and continue to top the World Curling Tour’s order of merit list.

Meanwhile, Sherry Middaugh rallied to score four in the seventh end and beat Scotland’s Eve Muirhead 8-5 to win the women’s title.
Middaugh scored two in the second end and stole a pair in the third to take an early 4-1 lead. Muirhead charged back with a triple in the fifth and reclaimed the lead 5-4 with a steal of one in the sixth.
The Coldwater, Ont., rink of Middaugh, Jo-Ann Rizzo, Lee Merklinger and Leigh Armstrong climbed into ninth place on the WCT women’s order of merit list.
