Italy defeats Scotland to win world mixed doubles championship

Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner are golden again.

The reigning Olympic champions defeated Scotland’s Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat 9-4 to win the world mixed doubles championship Sunday in Fredericton.

Constantini and Mosaner posted a perfect 11-0 record in the tournament and now hold a 22-game winning streak at the international level after running the table through the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Constantini competed at the mixed doubles worlds with Sebastiano Arman (2022 and 2023) and Francesco de Zanna (2024) before reuniting with Mosaner.

“It’s something really important for us, an important goal,” Constantini told The Curling Group’s Devin Heroux. “We did really well in Beijing, and we did the same here, so I am really, really proud of ourselves and of my teammate and me and how we are working together. It’s really, really good.”

Already up by one, Italy broke away with a steal of two points in the fourth end and a single in the fifth to lead 5-4.

Scotland used its power play in the sixth to count three points and close the gap within one.

However, Italy added four points in the seventh to ice the game.

Meanwhile, Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt earned Australia’s first medal ever in a world curling championship by defeating Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill 9-2 for bronze.

Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant finished sixth in the competition after losing 7-5 to Estonia in the qualification round and 8-4 to Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin of the United States in the ranking game on Friday.

Peterman and Gallant, who won the Canadian Olympic trials earlier this season, qualified for next year’s Winter Olympics in Italy.
