Double defending champions Team Homan and Princess Auto Elite 10 winners Team Hasselborg are among those who have punched their tickets to Saskatoon for the women’s division.
“This is one of the events where it’s a little bit tougher because you could play really well all year and not qualify for it if you don’t actually win an event,” Team Homan third Emma Miskew explained after capturing the 2018 Humpty’s Champions Cup. “To already be in it takes a bit of the pressure off.”
Reigning champions Team Gushue, Canadian Beef Masters victors Team Epping and Tour Challenge Tier 1 winners Team Jacobs already highlight the men’s field. Jacobs said it’s great to have his team’s spot secured after defeating Team Brendan Bottcher 6-5 in the Tour Challenge Tier 1 men’s final in October.
“Always happy to play in that event,” said Jacobs, who claimed the Humpty’s Champions Cup in 2017. “We’ve won it before. You don’t want to put too much pressure on yourself to get into that event but as the season gets further and further and further, if you don’t win then it starts to mount. It’s nice to kind of breathe that sigh of relief now that we’re in that event.”
Teams must earn a high-profile title in order to receive an invitation and it’s not just limited to Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events with world champions, world junior champions, Brier and Tournament of Hearts winners plus more receiving berths.
You don’t want to miss the star-studded Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season finale with so much more to experience live such as the Pinty’s Pub and Grill Zone, where you can take in the action up close at ice level, to the Grand Slam Social House featuring food, beverages, and live entertainment between games.
