Homan tops Jones to stay undefeated at HearingLife Tour Challenge

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Rachel Homan and her Ottawa-based team rattled off their third consecutive win in the HearingLife Tour Challenge during Draw 9 action Thursday morning at the Coca-Cola Centre.

The 11-time Grand Slam women’s champion Homan scored a deuce in the third, stole one in the fourth and three in the fifth during a 7-3 victory over Winnipeg’s Team Jones.

While Team Homan is at the top of the table with a 3-0 record, Team Jones is at the opposite end of the spectrum at 0-3.

Sweden’s Team Hasselborg also improved to 3-0 after stealing a point in the eighth end to win 5-4 over Japan’s Team Fujisawa (1-2).

Germany’s Team Jentsch picked up their first win of the tournament — and handed Canada’s Team Duncan their first loss — with a 7-4 decision. Jentsch is now at 1-2 while Duncan holds a 2-1 record.

South Korea’s Team Gim defeated Sweden’s Team Wranå 8-4 with both teams holding 1-2 records.

NOTES

The HearingLife Tour Challenge is the second event on the 2022-23 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling calendar with two tiers and a total of 64 teams. Both tiers feature 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams. … Round-robin play runs through to Friday as teams play four games against opponents outside of their pool. … The top eight teams overall advance to Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Saturday evening with both finals on tap for Sunday.
