Homan defeats Einarson to win second straight Scotties Tournament of Hearts title
Canada’s Team Homan captured a second consecutive Scotties Tournament of Hearts after beating Manitoba’s Team Einarson 6-1 during Sunday’s final in Thunder Bay, Ont.
It’s the fifth career Scotties title for skip Rachel Homan, who will now look to defend the world women’s curling championship, March 15-23, in Uijeongbu, South Korea.
The Ottawa-based club of Homan, third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew and lead Sarah Wilkes posted a perfect 11-0 record through the Scotties and improved to 56-4 on the season.
Einarson lost 8-4 to Homan during Saturday’s Page 1-2 playoff game and earned a narrow 8-7 victory over Nova Scotia’s Team Black in Sunday’s semifinal to set up the rematch.
Homan, who curled 100 per cent in the final, took a 2-1 lead into the fifth-end break and rolled away stealing one in the seventh, two in the eighth and another point in the ninth to bring out the handshakes.
