Gushue, Mouat stay perfect to clinch HearingLife Tour Challenge playoff spots

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Canada’s Team Gushue and Scotland’s Team Mouat kept their unblemished records intact to secure playoff berths in the HearingLife Tour Challenge.

Gushue doubled up on fellow Canadian club Team Carruthers 6-3 while Mouat beat Canada’s Team Dunstone 5-3 during Draw 12 round-robin action Thursday night at the Coca-Cola Centre.

Both Gushue and Mouat are now 3-0 in the tournament and meet in their round-robin finale during Draw 15 Friday afternoon.

Skip Brad Gushue won a 14th career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling men’s title when his crew ran the table in the Boost National two weeks ago, and the foursome are now 10-0 in the series this season.

Carruthers and Dunstone dropped to 1-2 records and also face off in Draw 15.

Elsewhere, Toronto’s Team Epping (1-2) took their first win of the tournament with an 8-3 victory over Switzerland’s Team Brunner, who have been eliminated from playoff contention at 0-3.

Scotland’s Team Whyte (1-2) also kept their playoff hopes alive with an 8-1 rout over Canada’s Team Horgan (0-3).

NOTES

The HearingLife Tour Challenge is the second event on the 2022-23 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling calendar with two tiers and a total of 64 teams. Both tiers feature 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams. … Round-robin play runs through to Friday as teams play four games against opponents outside of their pool. … The top eight teams overall advance to Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Saturday evening with both finals on tap for Sunday.
