Fleury to skip in Champions Cup, Carey to sub at Players’ Championship
Tracy Fleury is expected to rejoin her teammates for the upcoming Humpty’s Champions Cup inside the curling bubble at Calgary’s WinSport Arena.
Third Selena Njegovan announced the news Wednesday on Team Fleury’s Instagram live story.
Fleury, of Sudbury, Ont., hasn’t played with her club in over a year and missed last month’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts to take care of her daughter Nina, who was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a seizure disorder, in November. Two-time Canadian champion Chelsea Carey of Calgary skipped Fleury’s Wild Card One squad into the championship pool and finished with a 6-6 record.
While Fleury is scheduled to return for the Humpty’s Champions Cup, April 14-18, the plan is for Carey to fill in again at skip for the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 20-25.
Team Fleury, playing out of East St. Paul, Man., is ranked No. 3 in the world and captured the Masters in North Bay, Ont., last season. It was the first career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title for Fleury.
