Fleury flies into the GSOC Sick Shot Challenge lead

Team Fleury has dashed out of the gate to take the lead following the opening round of the GSOC Sick Shot Challenge.

Fleury, of Sudbury, Ont., checked off all seven challenges for the WFG Masters and also earned the early bird bonus for submitting one entry prior to the start of the season for maximum points.

We awarded their double takeout for the five-star challenge the full points value since they paid homage to their Northern Ontario roots making one of the greatest curling shots of all time: Al Hackner’s double from the 1985 Brier final.

They also took on the toughest task: recreating Mike McEwen’s amazing shot from the 2014 Masters. We had our doubts and were willing to award teams 250 points just for trying, however, Fleury pulled it off for 500 points.

Edmonton’s Team Rocque is in second place followed by Winnipeg’s Team Einarson. We’d post the full points standings, but feel leaving it a mystery adds more suspense and keeps Team Fleury on their toes for the next round.

If your favourite team hasn’t entered yet, there’s still time to catch up!

The GSOC Sick Shot Challenge runs during the season through to the end of the Players’ Championship and is a contest consisting of scavenger hunt and trick shot challenges for teams to complete. Any team in the series can enter, but only one will take home the grand prize of $5,000!
