Team Carruthers set a new personal-best Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling finish as a rink together this season when they came runner-up to Team Gushue at the National in Oshawa, Ont., in November.

Carruthers carried the momentum from the National back Morris, Man., where they captured the DEKALB Superspiel title the following weekend. The victory earned them a spot for the season-ending Humpty’s Champions Cup.

The team has qualified for the playoffs at all four Pinty’s GSOC events so far this season, just one of three men’s teams that can make that claim (Gushue and Koe are the other two), and most recently made it to the semifinals at the Meridian Canadian Open in December.

Carruthers previously played with legendary skip Jeff Stoughton and won the Brier and world championships in 2011 as well as the National in 2013. He returned to skipping his own team last season with Braeden Moskowy, Derek Samagalski, and Colin Hodgson. They earned the Manitoba provincial title in their first year together.

Team Carruthers competed in the inaugural Elite 10 last season. They finished the round robin with a 3-1 record to qualify for the playoffs but fell to Team Edin in the quarterfinals.

The 2016 Elite 10 runs March 17-20 at the Q Centre at West Shore Parks & Recreation in Victoria.
