Edin earns win over Mouat to begin Boost National quest
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Niklas Edin and his Swedish side emerged victorious once again over Bruce Mouat’s Scottish squad during an Olympic rematch Tuesday evening in the Boost National at Memorial Gardens.
The reigning Olympic and world champion Edin scored a deuce off the bat in the first, added a single point in the sixth and a steal of one during the seventh to defeat the Beijing Winter Games silver medallist Mouat 4-1 in Draw 4 action.
Mouat, who has taken on sweeping duties this week with second Bobby Lammie sporting bandaged fingers, was held to one point in the fourth.
Elsewhere in the draw, Reid Carruthers continues to raise his stock price as his Canadian club began their run with a 6-5 victory over Team Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland. Carruthers entered the event fresh off of claiming the top prize at the new winner-take-all PointsBet Invitational.
Switzerland’s Team Michael Brunner counted three in the sixth and stole one in the seventh to earn a 7-3 win over Team Korey Dropkin of the United States.
Canada’s Team Matt Dunstone escaped with a steal in the extra end to edge Scotland’s Team Ross Whyte 5-4 and wrap up the opening day of action.

The Boost National action resumes Wednesday with Draw 5 at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Broadcast coverage begins Thursday at 12 p.m. ET on Sportsnet, SN NOW (Canada) and Yare (international).
Round-robin play runs through to Friday as teams play four games against teams outside of their pool. The top eight overall, regardless of pools, advance to Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Saturday evening and both finals are on tap for Sunday.

The Boost National is the first of six events on the 2022-23 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling calendar and features 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. … A combined $300,000 purse, split equally between the men’s and women’s divisions, is on the line. The winning teams receive $35,000 and invitations to the season-ending Kioti Tractor Champions Cup. … Points are also up for grabs in the race for the Pinty’s Cup, which is awarded to the 2022-23 season champions with a $75,000 bonus for the winning teams.
